Lou Levy is a DC downtown intellectual property lawyer who is a volunteer mediator for the Moco Office of Consumer Protection. He'll speak to us about frauds and scams, how to avoid them and how to respond if enmeshed! Some of you met Lou during his brief checkin at our Afternoon Learners meeting. After his presentation, he'll hopefully be open to as much discussion as you all want. Here is his fuller bio:
Backgrond:
Lou Levy is an attorney specializing in intellectual property law. He is also a trained mediator handling "day of trial" mediations at the Maryland District Court. He has also mediated government whistleblower and employment disputes with the U.S. office of Special Counsel and served as a volunteer mediator for the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office for minor criminal matters.
As a result of a close relative's victimization and impoverishment at the hands of fraudsters, he became involved with the AARP's Fraud Watch Network, where he advises fraud victims on measures they can take to protect themselves and reduce the consequences of fraud when it occurs.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Lou was a telecommunications regulatory and policy analyst for Booz Allen Hamilton, where he analyzed Soviet/Russian and Eastern European economic, political, and military affairs and later edited and contributed to an award-winning U.S. government newsletter on telecommunications policy, regulation, and technology,
